You should leave feeling looked after.

We were the first LaVida Massage in the five boroughs, and 12 years later we're still the same family behind the front desk.

How it started

From Goodfella's to South Shore Commons.

Before LaVida, Darren Carbone owned and operated Goodfella's Restaurant and Bar in Brooklyn. When he and his sister Michele decided to make the leap into the massage business, it wasn't a business-plan decision. They both genuinely loved therapeutic massage, and nobody had brought LaVida to the five boroughs yet.

They picked the Charleston retail plaza, South Shore Commons, and opened in December 2013. The brother-and-sister team got there first, and the location has been serving the South Shore ever since.

What carried over

Restaurant people know what service actually is.

Knowing the room. Remembering your name. Understanding that people come back for how you made them feel, not for what was on the menu. Six of their children — Samantha, Jessica, Christina, Ariana, Sabrina and Darren Jr. — work in the business now.

The team

You'll have a favourite within two visits.

People don't come back to a business, they come back to a person. These three get named by guests in their own reviews, unprompted.

The center

Nine rooms, built to be easy to walk into.

The atmosphere here is deliberately gender neutral and family friendly. Massage shouldn't feel like a place you need to be a certain kind of person to enter.

Nine treatment rooms

Including a dedicated couple's room and a separate esthetics room for skincare services, so massage and facials never compete for space.

Open seven days

Extended weekday hours until 9pm, because the people who need a massage most are usually the ones who can't take a Tuesday afternoon off.

Easy to get to

Free lot parking right outside in South Shore Commons, and the center is wheelchair accessible.

Licensed therapists

Every therapist is state licensed, which means completing a minimum number of training hours at an accredited school before they ever work on you.
